WPSC-FM named Non-Commercial Station of the Year!
We are happy to announce that Brave New Radio was named Non-Commercial Station of the Year at this year’s NAB Marconi Award ceremony.
This was our third overall nomination for a Marconi Award and our first victory. Both General Manager, Dr. Rob Quicke, founder of the newly formatted Brave New Radio in 2008, was joined alongside WPU alum and current Station Manager, Sebastian Escobar in Orlando, Florida. “This award is for the kids because they are so passionate,” Dr. Quicke addressed the crowd of radio industry big wigs. “My friends, college radio is alive and kicking. We are training the next generation of broadcasters to come and hopefully sit where you are sitting as well.”
Dr. Quicke also made mentions to our sister-station, Radio Vieques in Puerto Rico. This year, WPSC-FM aligned with WVQR-FM Radio Vieques to establish a sister-station relationship and help the station rocked by Hurricane Maria last year. “This is all about being in the community and helping people who need it the most.”
The NAB Marconi Awards, dubbed the Grammy’s of Radio, is a prestigious award ceremony where all radio stations, Non-Commercial, Small Market, Medium Market, Large Market, and Major Market, come together to celebrate the accomplishments in radio within the past year. This year has been a tremendous year for WPSC-FM. From helping Vieques, Puerto Rico, to winning the IBS Best College Radio Station in the Nation, to continuing to be a staple in the Wayne community … taking home the 20 pound, pointed crystal tower in Orlando was the perfect ending to our Cinderella story.
Thank you to our students for all of their hard work. To William Paterson University for your continuous contributions. And to our awesome, dear listeners for your support! We did it! Until next year …
-Sebastian Escobar, Station Manager
