2021

WPSC Wins Marconi Award for College Radio Station of the Year - November 2021

Brave New Radio won another Marconi Award for College Radio Station of the Year presented by the National Association of Broadcasters. This was our second time winning a Marconi after our 2018 win for Non-Commercial Station of the Year.

Brave New Radio Relaunches As Jersey’s Home for Alt Hip Hop - August 2021

For the first time in over a decade, Brave New Radio made its biggest music format change championing exclusively underground and alternative hip hop artists, dayparting rock to only on weekends. In 2017, Brave New Radio began playing blocks of alternative hip hop while still focusing on its core genres, indie pop and indie rock. Now nicknamed “Jersey’s Home for Alt Hip Hop”, Brave New Radio makes history as the only college radio station in the country pioneering the alternative hip hop music format.

Interview with WPUNJ President Richard Helldobler - April 2021

Morning Commute co-hosts, Justis Gregg and Vont Leak, welcomed William Paterson President Richard Helldobler back for his second virtual interview. Topics discussed in this interview included supposed plans about mandating the COVID vaccine on campus, President Helldobler’s raise, faculty layoffs and more.

Founding Station of College Radio Day Celebrates 10 Years - October 2020

Brave New Radio was presented with a special plaque for their incredibly hard work and efforts during the 10th annual College Radio Day.
College Radio Day was founded by William Paterson University Professor and former General Manager of WPSC, Dr. Rob Quicke, in 2011. Brave New Radio is the founding station of College Radio Day, now celebrated by over 600 stations in over 30 countries around the world.

Brave New Radio Celebrates World Radio Day In Italy - February 2020

On World Radio Day 2020, WPSC-FM became the first radio station to ever produce a live broadcast from the Marconi Museum in Bologna, Italy, the home where wireless radio was invented by Guglielmo Marconi.

2019

Brave New Radio Presents Ladies On The Airwaves - March 2019

Brave New Radio welcomed media personalities Angela Yee, Mina SayWhat, and Sky Landish for their Ladies On The Airwaves event. The celebrity guest panel answered questions regarding their journey to fame, trials and tribulations they’ve faced as women of color, tips for achieving in the industry and more.

2018

WPSC Celebrates 30 Years - December 2018

From December 3rd through December 8th 2018, WPSC-FM celebrated 30 years as an FM station by reviving several decade’s worth of previous eras programming. Former students returned to the airwaves of 88.7 to recreate past iterations of WPSC throughout each day of the week such as Laser Hits PSC, North Jersey’s Independent Rock, 88.7 Hit Radio and more.

WPSC Wins Marconi Award for Non-Commercial Station of the Year - September 2018

Dubbed the “Oscar’s” of Radio, Brave New Radio proudly took home the award for Non-Commercial Station of the Year presented by the National Association of Broadcasters. This was, and continues to be, a major feat for a small college radio station.

This was our first Marconi Award victory after being nominated in 2015 and 2017.

WPSC Forms Sister-Station Relationship with WVQR in Puerto Rico - June 2018

Brave New Radio staff, students and alum traveled back to the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico to sign a memorandum of understanding, establishing an official sister-station relationship with WVQR Radio Vieques.
This marks Brave New Radio’s return to the island of Vieques after their trip in January to help aid with the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

*Syndicated jazz programming from Radio Vieques can be heard on Brave New Radio every Sunday from 8-9am and 3-4pm.

Brave New Radio Named Best In The Nation, Again - March 2018

Brave New Radio was awarded Best College Radio Station in the Nation (with over 10,000 students) during the 78th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems Awards. This was the second time back-to-back that Brave New Radio has won this award following their 2017 win, as well as another back-to-back win in 2012 and 2013.
In 2018, Brave New Radio took home four other first place trophies.

2017

Brave New Radio Relaunches As Jersey’s #1 for New Indie - September 2017

With a new school year, came some new changes. The most visually noticeable change was our logo being updated for the first time since 2008, as we simplified our branding from WP 88.7 Brave New Radio to solely Brave New Radio. With this change also came the implementation of indie pop rotating with our indie rock music and eventually some alternative hip hop mixed in. With a vast genre of music rotating, the focus for spotlighting local and lesser known artists expanded as we coined the slogan “Jersey’s #1 for New Indie”.

2016

Brave New Radio Welcomes Skeery Jones on College Radio Day - October 2016

As a part of the sixth annual World College Radio Day, Brave New Radio welcomed Skeery Jones, executive producer and co-host at Elvis Duran and the Morning Show.

2014

Brave New Radio Presents Elvis Duran with Bravery In Radio Award - May 2014

Former General Manager, Dr. Rob Quicke, and current General Manager, Sebastian Escobar, visited Z100 in New York to present Elvis Duran with the Bravery In Radio Award. This award, created by Rob Quicke, is given to radio icons who continue to prove themselves exceptional at their craft.

Interview with Former WPUNJ President Kathleen Waldron - March 2014

Former students, Eric Dolan and Sebastian Escobar, welcomed former President Kathleen Waldron to Brave New Radio on their show The Monday Morning Blend. The group interviewed the former President and played signature games like Under The Seabass.

2013

Brave New Radio Welcomes Wyclef Jean on College Radio Day - October 2013

As a part of the third annual World College Radio Day, Brave New Radio welcomed legendary musician, Wyclef Jean, for an interview and live performances.

2011

Dr. Rob Quicke Founds ‘College Radio Day’ - October 2011

Dr. Rob Quicke founded College Radio Day, an annual holiday to raise awareness of the many college and high school radio stations in North America. WPSC was the first radio station to ever participate in the day. Due to its fortuitous success, World College Radio Day was conceived in 2012.

2009

The First Ever Braveathon - April 2009

In an effort to recognize and celebrate local and lesser known artists, Brave New Radio began its now annual tradition, Braveathon. Braveathon is a 15-hour event, now in partnership with WPTV-6, where 15 bands and artists perform live music and are later interviewed by members of both organizations.

2008

WPSC Rebrands As WP 88.7 Brave New Radio - 2008

With the arrival of new General Manager, Rob Quicke, WPSC rebranded to WP 88.7 Brave New Radio. The format remained primarily Indie Rock, Alternative Rock, and Punk but with a deep focus in playing music from local and independent artists.
